Criteria/Qualifications

The Charity for Renewable Energy Workers has been established to help provide financial assistance to family members of a severely injured, permanently disabled, or deceased to renewable energy workers injured or killed in an accident stemming from working on renewable energy infrastructure or other on the job related activities that renewable energy workers are involved in on a daily basis. Applicants are encouraged to review the criteria outlined below prior to submitting an official Foundation application for donation consideration.

The Charity for Renewable Energy Workers Advisory Committee will evaluate applications for accidents that occurred on or after July 1, 2025. This will be the starting point for applications to be considered. Donations will not be retroactive (provided for accidents that occurred prior to July 1, 2025).

The following definitions for the three categories of death, permanent disability or severe injury will be utilized by the Advisory Committee as a framework to evaluate whether applications merit a donation.

Death or Permanent Disability 

Defined as a loss of life or an injury that disables a person from performing the tasks he/she was doing earlier in the normal course, that will continue indefinitely and remain with a person throughout his or her lifetime. The cause of the death or permanent disability must be as a result of tower related work. The following are examples of injuries that constitute a permanent disability: 

  • Permanent Speech Impairment
  • Loss of Hearing in Both Ears
  • Loss of Sight in Both Eyes
  • Loss of Ability to Use Both Hands
  • Loss of Ability to Use Both Feet
  • Loss of Ability to Use a Combination of One Hand and Foot (Together)

Severe Injury

A severe injury is a physical injury which creates a substantial risk of death, or which causes serious disfigurement, serious impairment of health or serious loss of impairment of the function of any bodily organ. In order for an injury to be classified as severe, the worker must be hospitalized. The severe injury must be as a result of tower related work. 

Advisory Board Discretion

The Advisory Board of the CREW shall have the sole discretion to apply these criteria to any application for an award in its best judgment. Its decisions are final and not subject to any appeal by applicants or other third parties.
